Maura Hohman
News Writer & Lifestyle Editor, WhatToExpect.com in New York, New York
Ideas most often come to me while I'm drinking coffee, driving or developing another idea. They might be based on my own experience — an effort to connect with a stranger through what I've lived — but most often they're rooted in other people. They're the story behind a question I've asked enough times to remember it. They're the descendants of originally weak angles. They're narratives found across conversations with interesting people.
I'm a Georgetown University and Mizzou journalism grad on a continuous quest for more Twitter followers. I've studied French, English and magazine writing, my favorite language of them all. I've written about arts and culture, health, public policy, education, traveling and some really cool people. I currently work as a news writer and editor for WhatToExpect.com, part of Everyday Health, Inc. In the past, I've worked for U.S. News & World Report, the American Society of News Editors' Youth Journalism Initiative, HealthDay and Vox Magazine. I have professional experience with WordPress, basic HTML, SEO, analytics and social media. I've turned over five stories in a day, collaborated on multimedia packages, edited Vox Magazine's blog, crafted video scripts complete with visuals and aced a class on copy editing. I know my way around an iPhone camera, and I love a good deadline. Reach me at [email protected]; view my work below.
