Everybody has a “thing” that they are good at. For me, it took many trials and errors to find what my gift was: running. But first, I want to give some insight on the lengthy journey.
The first sport I had the opportunity to try was soccer; my dad thought it would be a good transition if he was the head coach for my team, it did not make a difference. This sport helped me realize I was not a fan of sports with balls but no gear. I found myself running away from the ball while my teammates ran towards/with it. The next sport I joined was ballet. It was this sport that I realized I was not a fan of being on a big stage with a bright light shining in my face. I preferred being backstage enjoying snacks. After that short lived phase, we tried gymnastics. I started at three years old and loved it all the way to fourteen when I walked off the medals podium at the State meet (biggest all year) to tell my mom I quit.
The final sport that was deemed unfit for me was softball. I once again was not a fan of the thought that a ball was coming at me 65 mph. It was this sport that I realized one thing stayed consistent throughout these years. My favorite part about the sports I tried was the running portion. In softball, they would even make me a pinch runner because I was able to steal bases and run them the fastest on the team. In middle school I started track and ever since then I was in love! I managed to achieve two State Championship rings during my time in high school and till this day am still a runner!
