Hello! I am Mayda, and I am a junior student at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. I want to be a Special Education teacher. Really? Why, Mayda? Well, because being a Special Education teacher is about more than just helping students to process academics; it's about giving them the independence to learn and interpret their surroundings in a way they can easily understand ... and because I love little kids.
I am an International Student. I'm from Matamoros; I was born and raised there, so Spanish is my first language. Honestly, I don't quite know how I learned English, but what I do know is that everyday I learn something new.
I enjoy doing nothing, and I am the #1 procrastinator (I'm working on that), but don't get me wrong... I'm a straight-A student. I just like the best of both worlds.
I love my major and my job because I love the satisfaction that comes from helping others. I believe that the world would be a better place if we stop thinking about ourselves and start caring about the ones that surround us.
Basically, Mayda is:
-Mexican! a student, a mentor, an aunt, a Mormon, a yoga novice, a unicorn lover, and a person who sleeps a lot.
"Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day." -Sally Kotch
