Mariam Azeez
My name is Mariam Azeez. I’m a digital video student at Durham college. I am working towards getting a journalism degree. In the future I would like to shoot documentaries about all the thing that people usually shy away from like war, poverty and human trafficking. One of the documentaries that I really want to make is about the place where my family is from, Guyana. People need to know and see what’s going on around the world. When people see things they are more likely to do something about it rather than when they read it. One of my other passions are photography. I love to take photos of children because it captures their innocence and it reminds me of when I was a carefree and stress free child. I also love taking pictures of nature because I feel most calm when I’m in the forest. I have been a children’s teacher for over 6 years. I like doing video and photography because I can make a difference with just using myself and my camera. My favorite thing to do in my spare time is reading, watching movies and finding ways to help people who need help. I’m the founder of a charity group called Hands for Earth. It’s not up and running yet, but we are trying to get the funding to help the homeless people by giving them hygiene packs and warm food once a week for a start.
