Ashlyn McElwee
Student, Volunteer, and Dancer in Athens GA
Ever since I was younger I have always had an interest in the arts, but I am not good at drawing or painting or any of the sorts. I did dance for a very long time of my life which had a huge impact on my life. Growing up being an introverted girl, dance was a beautiful way to express myself and my feelings. Although I kept my circle extremely tight, I had lots of friends throughout my dance career. Now, my major is Nutrition on the Pre-PA track so you might think, why am I talking so much about my dance career. Dance not only gave me a way to express myself, but it also help me find who and what I wanted to be. When I was in 8th grade, I was diagnosed with spondylosis theiss in my lower back. My vertebrae had slipped and it caused me to have to wear a back brace for about a year of my life. This injury was a little sad because I had to stop dace and it took away almost three years of my dancing time due to recovery, however its always been a time I hold close to me, because working with a PA for years and learning about the bones and muscles allowed me to gain a firing interest and because I learned so much about the spine, I decided to move foreword with the intention of working hard to become an orthopedic PA. With all that being said, my life is filled with so much more than becoming a PA, I love to take walks with my twin sister, traveling to different countries and learning new languages. I also love going to pet stores because I also love cats (although I never got to have one because I am allergic). These experiences and things that I love basically make up everything “about me”. :)
