Early Life and Education
McKinzie J. Scott was born in the Bronx, New York, and raised in Harlem. He is of Jamaican-American descent. From a young age, Scott expressed interest in music and performance, studying multiple instruments including guitar, piano, and drums.
He attended the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS) in Manhattan, a public high school known for training actors, dancers, and vocalists. While at PPAS, Scott studied classical and contemporary acting techniques, which laid the foundation for his transition into professional film and television work.
Career
Scott began auditioning professionally in his teens, quickly landing background and featured roles on major television productions. In 2023, he was featured in an episode of Poker Face, the mystery-of-the-week series created by Rian Johnson and starring Natasha Lyonne. He later appeared in HBO’s period drama The Gilded Age, created by Julian Fellowes.
In 2025, Scott received wider attention for his work in two independent feature films. In Southside Kev, a drama set in modern-day Chicago, he played a supporting role exploring themes of brotherhood, survival, and generational trauma. His performance was praised for its naturalism and intensity. That same year, he co-starred in Adulthood, a coming-of-age film that premiered on the independent festival circuit and was noted for its raw, character-driven storytelling.
Outside of acting, Scott has continued to train in voice, movement, and scene study while preparing for larger film roles. He has also expressed interest in producing and writing original work in the future.
