Daniel McMahon
My name is Daniel McMahon. I grew up in Burlington, Massachusetts and I am currently a sophomore in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am a Finance major but still testing the waters of the other Business majors. For years now I have known I wanted to pursue a path in business. Growing up, I played competitive sports any chance I could and it instilled in me a passion to succeed. I love working toward a goal and experiencing the thrill of achieving it. Whether it be the Stock Market, the development of a new project, whatever it may be, the business world will offer that type of fulfillment for me. I love feeling purpose in what I do and I think much of that stems from being so competitive growing up. I played nearly every sport possible ranging from organized team sports like football, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse, to individual sports like golf and tennis. Each one of these activities helped me to appreciate the value of hard work and allowed me to understand the positives that derive from it.
Sports are not my only passion. I am deeply passionate about the environment. I believe a Green Economy, one that is safe for the Earth, is not only profitable but vital. I fear the harm that is being done to our Earth could be irreparable and I do not like to sit by idly and do nothing. I believe businesses have the responsibility to minimize their ecological footprint and that is a great reason why I have an interest in business. There are business models and alternative ways for a company to conduct a business without causing harm and I feel that if I am engaged in the business world I can help make a change. I know it may seem like an epic challenge to tackle but with collective minds working toward a goal, changes can be made.
