Kathy McMorrow
Mother, Student, and stunt actor in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
I was born in Scarborough, Toronto in 1964 to Australian parents. As a young girl, I fell in love with the sport of gymnastics. Not only did it dominate my adolescence but it is a part of who I am today. I qualified for the 1980 Olympic team and fulfilled one of my childhood dreams.
After retiring from gymnastics I spent many years teaching it. I also moved to Australia, went to University and completed an English/History degree. I fell in love and pursued a reasonably successful career as a Stunt Actor working in film and television.
I loved my work but by the time I was in my early 30's I was ready for a new challenge. My boyfriend, soon to be a husband, suggested we start a family and from the moment I fell pregnant I knew that it was the best job in the world. Even when I was doing nothing I was doing something. Never again would I have an existential moment wondering what the point of it all was. Eventually, my husband and I made the sea change and moved to the Northern NSW town of Mullumbimby where we raised our four children. Along the way, my husband and I had an amicable divorce.
In March of 2018, my daughter got accepted into the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. The boys were all but grown-up so I emptied my house of people, animals and things, rented it out and headed to Canada with my two daughters. Emily dances, Mia plays basketball and I am studying to be a teacher of English as a Second Language. I want to volunteer with newcomers to the country and Mia and I have dreams of living in Japan.
