I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan studying Sociology and Urban Planning. My research often deals with the politics of revitalization work in shrinking cities. Most of my work takes place in Detroit (Michigan, United States) and Kazimierz (Krakow, Poland). The themes I explore include gentrification, placemaking, stratification, third place (the public domain that is neither work nor home) and the meaning of authenticity in the built environment.

I am also a professional urban planner that has worked for three municipal city departments. Most recently, I spear-headed the effort to create a capital improvements agenda and broader parks strategy for the General Services Department in the City of Detroit, where I work as a parks urban planner.
