I am in my final year in the doctoral program at the Missouri School of Journalism. My research explores how journalists and publishers of local and ethnic immigrant media perceive their journalistic practices, how they adjust news content to the needs of their audience, and how they accumulate and convert cultural and economic capital. I am also interested in how immigrants acquire knowledge from English-language media.
I earned my master's degree in magazine editing from the Missouri School of Journalism in 2008. I've earned a diploma of a specialist in management from Kostroma State University in 2004.
My professional experience is in editing a quarterly magazine for a chain of beauty salons, a monthly newspaper for a nonprofit organization, and a website for a construction company in Kostroma, my hometown in Russia. I also consulted a newspaper start-up in a town of 23,000 people in Kostroma region and developed a pilot issue of a promotional magazine for a jewelry production in Kostroma.
I can teach introductory news and public relations writing courses, magazine editing and publishing, and mass media theory. I'm currently teaching a newswriting class at the Missouri School of Journalism. In spring 2014, I taught a lecture on cross-cultural journalism for 247 students.
