Music and song writing has been in my blood my whole life. I have been a keen musician and vocalist for as long as I can remember, singing in various choirs and playing in bands whist I was at school. I first ventured into the world of music production when I joined my secondary school and gained access to the schools bashed up, old studio. I spent many hours in that tiny booth, filled with its many, now redundant pieces of hardware and electronic gadgetry, experimenting with it, finding new ways to create and produce music! It wasn’t until the last two years of my time at school that I actual was able to take Music Tech as an A level subject. This further developed my understanding of the more technical aspects of music production and helped me land one of only ‘four’ places at one of the most prestigious music colleges in the country, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where I am currently studying Electronic Music.
Coming from a predominantly classical background, I draw a lot of my ideas from the great classical/romantic composers of yesteryear, the likes of Debussy, Beethoven and Stravinsky to name but a few. I also take much influence from contemporary choral and film composers such as Eric Whitacre and Philip Glass. Jazz also plays a big part in my music making with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane being the most influential.
However, the contents of my parent’s record crate opened up a whole new style of musical stimuli. The music of the 60’s/70’s with bands and artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath,ELO, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Yes, David Bowie, Cat Stephens, Brain Eno, Mike Oldfield, Rick Wakeman and even the likes of the German Electro rock groups Kraftwerk, Neu! and Tangerine Dream have all influenced my music in many different ways.
Also, Old School Hip Hop, Rave and Dance music is a great source of my musical potential and Modern Drum & Bass/Electronic artists such as Goldie, London Elektricty, Apex, Noisia, Blu Mar Ten, Aphex Twin, Mistabishi, and especially artist like Bop, Stray, Enei, Synkro and Triad. I am looking for a chance to spread my sounds further afield so more people can appreciate them!
Listen and Enjoy!
