Megan Chartier

Cellist Megan Chartier has recently performed as a solo and chamber recitalist as well as a soloist with the Eastern Michigan University Symphony Orchestra. She was recently named the 1st prize winner of the Ann Arbor Society of Musical Arts' 2015 Young Artist Competition and was also the winner of both the 2012/13 Concerto and Aria Competition and 2012 Barry Manilow Competition at Eastern Michigan University. She has also recently performed on tour with nationally recognized artists including Michael Bublé and the Trans Siberian Orchestra in both of their 2014 tour seasons.Ms. Chartier has served as principal cellist in both the Eastern Michigan Symphony Orchestra and the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony Orchestra, touring in concert throughout Germany and France. She has recently performed with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in Brevard, NC and the University of Michigan’s University Symphony Orchestra. She has also worked with contemporary composers such as Michael Daugherty, Matthew Bridgeham, Jung Yoon Wie, and Gina Ceccoli during the composition and/or premiere performances of their works.Ms. Chartier, with a specific passion for chamber music, has performed as a participant of the NYU Steinhardt Intensive String Quartet Program in New York City and the Ann Arbor-based PhoenixPhest! Chamber Program, working with the Shanghai Quartet and the Cavani Quartet, respectively. In 2014, she was featured as PhoenixPhest's intern, coaching for chamber ensembles of all ages. Her primary chamber coaches include Dr. Howard Cass, Kathryn Votapek, Andrew Jennings, Katherine Collier, and Christopher Harding. She has also worked with Byron Tauchi (Brevard), as well as Karen Ritscher and Marion Feldman (NYU Quartet Program).Her primary teachers have included Anthony Elliott, Dr. Diane L. Winder, Dr. Robert K. Reed, and Irina Tikhonova. She has also recently studied with Alistair MacRae and Jonathan Spitz at the Brevard Music Center. She has performed in masterclasses for artists including Martin Katz, Tony Rymer, Kurt Baldwin, and Kyung Sun Lee.In addition to classical repertoire, she records and performs with an Ann Arbor-based folk-rock band, Souls Alike.Ms. Chartier holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Eastern Michigan University and, as of May 2015, a Master of Music in Performance from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
