Meggan Ellingboe
Recreation Representative in Los Feliz, CA
I'm honored to currently serve as the Recreation Representative for the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council.
I'm excited to run for re-election so we can continue to foster recreation for all residents and ages through green spaces, programs, traffic safety, facility improvements, and more!
Pre-pandemic, I planned open houses for new playgrounds in Griffith Park, organized a bike-in to CicLAvia, led efforts to sponsor fun runs, while advocating for more open spaces such as access to Rowena Reservoir & presenting a vision for a community/recreation center that'd benefit all ages and families. We're now hoping to add ping pong tables to the Riverside area of the park.
I am proud of our work to establish a Help Hub and connect volunteers and those needing help in the early days of the Pandemic. I enjoyed calling neighbors and knowing we live in a neighborhood of helpers.
I've also worked with the Transportation & Mobility Committee to bring Slow Streets to Los Feliz so we have a bit more room to move around each other and promote traffic safety.
I've also been a member of the Cultural Affairs Committee. We've put on the Holiday Fair -Los Felizidades- hosted the Film & Focus events, sponsored Shakespeare in the Park, and brought the beautiful mural to Albertson's wall. Pre-pandemic, we were in the midst of planning a bike-in movie event.
Now more than ever is it important we ensure access to Griffith Park in a safe, inclusive way. Recreation is an opportunity to build community across demographics and build equity in park access.
Priorities should include continued maintenance of tennis facilities, improvement of the pool off Riverside, and support the DASH Observatory route and the Parkline when those services can safely return so we can reduce traffic in the park.
We must also find ways to create more space for people to recreate closer to home whether that's through improving the Slow Streets program and working with City leaders to find space for pocket parks or a rec center so all generations can benefit from a local community meet-up space.
The Rec committee enjoyed meeting dogs and their humans in pre-pandemic days; it'd love to look at the feasibility of a closer dog park.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to continuing working with you and others to advocate for Los Feliz!
