Mel Mihelic

Lawrence, Kansas, United States

I began working at the University Career Center in January 2013 as the Kansas Career Work Study Program Coordinator. The program is state-funded and meant to create career-related positions in local Kansas businesses for KU students. As the coordinator, I essentially run the program from the ground up. I am the main point of contact for KCWS, interacting with employers and students, as well as managing the budget and processing all invoices. I find myself wearing several "hats" at the office, as I am also able to work as a Peer Career Assistant and post full-time job positions to our website. With each day comes some new challenge within the program and the outstanding relationships I have created with my colleagues and KCWS participants makes my “job” feel less like work.

Along with working at the UCC, I also stay involved in several on-campus activities and student groups. I am currently a sophomore Accounting and Finance major here at KU, as well as a member of the Business Leadership Program and the Business Honors Program. I am the social media chair for the KU Student Endowment Board and sit on the executive board of my sorority, Chi Omega, as the house manager. In the spare time that I do have off campus, I indulge in Grey's Anatomy on Netflix and a good, long run. I find my peace and power in a strong cup of coffee (two Splenda packets, please). I am career oriented with a dry sense of humor, but always ready for a good belly laugh with my family and friends. I believe happiness is a choice and living in the moment while still preparing for the future is a must. Work hard, play hard is my way of life.
