Melanie Kate Karl

Therapist, Teacher, and Personal Trainer in Nelson, B.C

Life’s challenges can draw us inward, into quiet, unfamiliar places where healing may feel both necessary and out of reach. In these tender moments, having someone beside you, a steady presence, a compassionate witness, can make all the difference.

I’m Melanie Karl, a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling based in British Columbia. My work is deeply shaped by personal experience: living with chronic illness, moving through trauma, and recovering from an eating disorder. These journeys have given me a grounded understanding of the courage it takes to heal, and a deep respect for the complexity of that process. They inspire my commitment to walk beside others with intention, empathy, and presence.

At the heart of my approach is Relational Somatic Therapy, a practice that invites you to listen to your body, understand the language of your nervous system, and learn to support its natural rhythms. The body holds our lived experience, both past and present. In somatic work, we slow down and turn inward, gently noticing how sensations, emotions, and memories arise and move through us. When words feel out of reach, movement, sound, or imagery may support expression and release.

While we can’t change the past, we can shift how the body carries it. Rooted in current research in neuroscience, trauma, and attachment theory, somatic therapy isn’t about fixing what’s broken, it’s about creating the internal conditions where healing can unfold. This embodied awareness supports greater safety, regulation, and connection with yourself, offering a path toward deeper ease and integration.

While somatic therapy is a central focus of my work, it is not all I do. As an integrative practitioner, I draw from a variety of theories and modalities to meet you where you are and support your unique healing journey. This flexibility allows me to work with anyone who resonates with my approach and style, adapting our work together to what best serves you.

Together, we explore your story, your truths, your pain, and your vision for what’s possible. I believe counselling is a sacred space: a place where you are fully seen and heard, held with warmth, curiosity, and care. Within this space, old patterns can begin to soften, allowing more freedom, resilience, and self-compassion to emerge.

Each person’s journey is unique. I tailor my work to meet you where you are, knowing that your needs may shift over time. Whether you're stepping into therapy for the first time or returning after a break, I understand how vulnerable it can feel to begin. We can move at your pace, whether you're exploring something deeply held or working to build emotional safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship.

My clients continually remind me of the courage it takes to show up for yourself in this way. If you feel drawn to work together, I invite you to reach out. It would be an honour to support you on your path.
