I am a born empathizer with the drive to change the world and the optimism to overcome every barrier. The United States faces many challenges: hunger/poverty, discrimination, racial inequities, the wealth gap, homelessness, and others. The US is a global leader and it is of particular concern that this nation is not setting a high enough bar for what human rights, adequate living and the abolition of structural racism looks like. It is evident to myself and my academic cohort that this world is controlled by the interest of money, not the interest of people and it will take a paradigm shift from the commodification of life towards the revaluation of humanity as more than figures on a line. The future of people depends on the worth of the environment, labor, health and education taking center stage over capital assets amassed in the hands of a few.
