Melissa Boyer

Bloomfield Hills, MI and Alfred, NY

My name is Melissa Boyer and I am currently a senior at Alfred University for my BFA concentrating in ceramics.

In one way or another I have always been interested in art, but after being introduced to ceramics, I feel I have finally found my calling. I love the feeling I get when I work with clay and find the process of making my drive to continue on and try to hopefully pursue this as a career.

I handbuild my work with slabs and my pieces tend to be fairly large. I experiment with different clays and forms allowing myself to problem solve throughout the building process keeping me interested and learning all the possible boundaries clay has to offer.

I have an organic quality to my work in terms of form. I typically stay away from gemotric shapes as well as sharp lines and edges and create masses that flow together creating a sense of movement within itself as well as a unifying quality that I believe brings it together.

I hope you take the time to look at my blog and see what I have been up to!
