Melissa Lafsky
Writer and Communications Executive in Los Angeles
I'm a writer, communications strategist and expert in using storytelling as a change agent for brands.
I've created and executed narrative strategies for large companies including Facebook, Google, Citibank and GE, and worked with early- to mid-stage startups to develop their mission and brand narrative, then bring it to the world.
As a crisis strategist, I've guided companies and executives facing high-stakes situations to create narratives that maximize positive outcomes while minimizing negative impact.
I've also worked with public figures, nonprofits and elected officials to communicate stories powerfully, winning hearts and minds and driving action.
As a journalist and editor, I launched and ran digital properties for The New York Times, Newsweek, Discover magazine and others. I started my career as a labor and employment lawyer in New York City where I founded the popular blog Opinionistas, which covered life inside the world's toniest law firms.
I've written for places like The New York Times, The New York Observer, Wired, The Huffington Post and The Daily Beast, and appeared on-air for CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Fox News, Fox Business and NPR. I got my JD from UVA School of Law and a BA in English Literature from Dartmouth.
