Melissa Padron
Howdy!
My name is Melissa Padron and I am from San Antonio, Texas. I am currently a senior at Texas A&M University and I will be graduating in December 2013 with my BS in Psychology. I have a condition called albinism, which causes me to be legally blind and highly sensitive to sunlight and other bright lights.
Despite my blindness, I don't let life get me down. I am engaged to a wonderful man and we plan to get married in November 2014. I also have a female yellow Labrador/golden retriever cross Guide Dog named Cameo. I like to scrapbook, paint, read, spend time with my family, and learn new things.
I came to BVCIL in April 2013 as an Independent Living Facilitator. I primarily work with the peer support groups and the Assistive Technology Lab. I want to get my alternative teaching certificate and become a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and an Orientation and Mobility specialist (COMS). I want to teach children who are blind or visually impaired to be confident and independent. Most importantly, I want to show others that if they work hard and never give up, they can accomplish their dreams.
