I’m a freelance editor and writer, with extensive experience in travel publishing and corporate copy-editing.
I’ve had a long association with Rough Guides, for whom I’ve worked – in a freelance capacity – for sixteen years as an author, proofreader, editor and project-manager. I wrote/co-wrote from scratch their guidebooks on Chile and Ecuador, and have edited and project-managed numerous titles, from the Rough Guide to Brussels to the Rough Guide to Bali and Lombok. When project-managing a title I oversee every stage of the editorial process from inception to publication, liaising with authors, cartographers, picture researchers, typesetters and proofreaders. I’ve also written travel articles for a number of British newspapers and magazines, including the Telegraph, the Independent and Wanderlust.
It’s not just travel, though: I’ve copy-edited and proofread a range of lengthy, complex reports for RAND Europe – a not-for-profit research institute – including publications for clients such as the General Medical Council and the European Commission. RAND also asked me to create a house style guide, which I wrote for them in 2006.
