Melissa Hundley
Valdosta, Georgia
Hi everyone I am Melissa Hundley. I was born and raised in Georgia within a small town called Richmond Hill. Located outside the big city of Savannah, I had the luxuries of having some heavily populated events relatively close but also the option to live in a quiet and conservative neighborhood. My mother raised myself and my brother, Stephen, who is five years older, basically all by herself while also being a dedicated fifth grade teacher. My grandfather, whom I call papa, had a huge impact on my childhood by always being present and still continues to do so.
I am currently a sophomore at Valdosta State University with my intended major being nursing. While being a full time student and an active member in the sorority Kappa Delta, I would consider myself to be an exceptionally involved individual. I am currently working towards becoming a volunteer at South Georgia Medical Clinic (SGMC) to help gain some experience in Health Care and earn community service hours. In my free time I enjoy going to the beach, working out, and spending time with my close friends. My roommates Maggie Laine, Kayla, and Abi are actually three of my closest friends, living with these ladies gives me the perfect home away from home. I also do my best to keep up with Lauren, Savannah, and Ashley, my best friends from high school as well even though we all ended up going to different Universities. My family and friends mean the world to me and I keep them as a top priority in my life for that reason.
My future goals are to settle down somewhere on the east coast, around the Carolina’s, and to become a neonatal nurse practitioner. I'm interested in specializing in neonatology because I think it would be an incredible career to watch the tiniest babies grow into independent beings. When I was fifteen, my aunt was pregnant with twins and had to have an emergency C-section early on in her pregnancy. Both of the babies, Sadie and William, were just under two pounds when they were born. Unfortunately, Sadie was too small to sustain life on her own and she passed away not long after her birth. William spent three months in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), where I got to visit him and that is when I knew that a career in the NICU would mean the world to me.
Hope my post hasn’t bored you to sleep, I am new at this but excited to learn.
