Melissa Muzyczka
Toronto, Ontario
"Engaging, empathetic and adventurous are three words those that know her best would attribute to Melissa Muzyczka. The Public Relations student has vivacious personality and a friendly attitude towards everyone she meets. People have been known to marvel at her ability to build a strong rapport with strangers she’s only met moments ago. Her voice and tone always assure them she has everything under control and well in hand.
Her transition into PR was unconventional, to say the least. She started out in Durham College’s Graphic Design program but quickly figured out that it wasn’t for her. So in September of 2010 she entered into the Advertising Program at OCAD University that combined her love of both writing and design. Unfortunately for the Advertising field (but lucky for PR) health and family problems kept her from returning to the program. So in the fall of 2012 she began the Durham College Public Relations program.
Melissa already had a wide variety of interests and skills before joining the program. Since enrolling she’s worked at DVI Lighting as a graphic designer, Global Spectrum as a Marketing Intern, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oshawa-Whitby as a Communications Intern. She’s helped promote the Big Brothers Big Sisters Tea @ 2 and Bowl for Kids Sake campaigns, co-created a product catalogue with DVI Lighting and been on deck for Event Planning with Global Spectrum. And in August she’ll be travelling to Ghana to help build a school with Free The Children.
As a soon to be graduate of the Durham College Public Relations program Melissa would like to work with TIFF, CBC Sports or MSLE. A communications position in sports would be ideal for someone with her talents and she’s aiming high! Her goal is to be working at CBC during the Winter Olympics in Korea four years from now."
