Mel Joseph
Director and Small Business Owner in Lancashire
My career hasn’t followed a straight line. I began as a trained chef before spending over two decades in financial services across the UK and overseas. Along the way, I developed a strong interest in technology and problem-solving, which eventually led me into software development.
In 2014, I left my finance career and co-founded a data analytics company focused on customer experience and feedback for the hospitality sector. That work taught me how technology, data, and behaviour intersect — lessons I later applied when I founded Mente in 2017 to help employers manage workplace stress, compliance, and wellbeing more effectively.
I also hold HR and advocacy qualifications covering people practice, strategy, and employment law, which complement my practical experience across multiple industries.
My interest in mental health is both personal and professional. In 2008, I was diagnosed with a mental health condition that forced me to pause and reassess my life. Through that experience, I learned that recovery is possible with the right support, knowledge, and understanding. Those lessons shaped Mente’s design — a platform built on prevention and real-world experience, not theory or trends.
Outside of work, I balance family life with a focus on making a quiet impact rather than loud promises. I’m not personally active on social media but if you’re curious about what we do, visit our website.
