Melvin Harris – Visual Artist

I am a visual artist and I love to create a varying range of images, from photo-realistic scenery to "other-worldly" abstracts. In my work one may perceive a facet of my dream life, catch a glimpse of a thought, experience or wish that I have had during my life. My work is created using 3D modeling software, 3D landscape software and fractal generating programs and printed on high quality watercolor paper and canvas using Epson Archival inks. Giclée prints of my work are for sale.

My art is strongly influenced by my life-long pursuit of a spiritual life and many years of studying various faiths, philosophies and religions as well as my various travels throughout the world. I intend for every image to be not only thought provoking but also appealing to the eye.

I am a native of New York City and now reside in Saint Albans, Vermont. My interest in art began early in life and I spent a good deal of my after-school hours studying art and frequenting both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.

My background is in commercial art and I worked for many years in California as an illustrator and graphic artist. During this time I intensively studied Water Color and Acrylic painting, Life Drawing, Graphic Art and Design, Technical Illustration and Airbrush Photo Retouching.

My prints are on display at various office and medical buildings in Burlington, Vermont exhibited by the Burlington City Arts Council and in several private collections. I also have prints displayed at the Village Frame Shop and Gallery in Saint Albans. My work may be seen in International Contemporary Masters V – a juried annual art publication.

Always beginning with a blank screen, I use several computer programs to produce a wide range of images and themes. The programs I use most often are: Corel Painter, Bryce Studio, Vue, Apophysis, Cinema4D and Photoshop. Using these programs I create a variety of abstracts and photo-realistic scenes, but I am not a photographer even though people often think of my work as photography. I am available for commissioned work. Some print series bear an original signature while others are digitally signed.

I regularly update the images on my site so, please stop by!
