Ismael Mendez

My close friends and family call me Ish but my birth name is Ismael Mendez. I was named after my father. I was born September 15, 1990 in Dallas, Texas. I am the youngest out of a family of five and have four older sisters. I am the first generation college student and am currently attending Northwood University. I chose to attend Northwood University because it offers a specialist focus on advertising and marketing communications. The skills and knowledge that I have gained are directly relevant to my desired career.

Advertising is one of my main interests because it gives me freedom to use my creativity and allows me to gain real world experience. Most people would be satisfied with a nice office, steady pay, and monotonous routine but that is not me. I seek something more than an average job. I ultimately want to have a career that I enjoy. The Advertising Industry offers a competitive, fast paced, creative thinking, and challenging environment that will give me the opportunity to showcase my talents. In addition to working on my career in advertising, I am also an active member of DECA. DECA is an organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for students enrolled in marketing education classes. DECA has been beneficial in my personal development because it has improved my leadership, communication, and thinking skills.

Maintaining two jobs and being a full time student is always a challenge. I work hard to maintain good grades while learning to manage my time effectively. Education is very important to me and I make it my top priority to stay focused and dedicated in my studies. My goal is to complete my Marketing Advertising Degree and graduate by May 2013. After graduation, I plan to use my degree and start a career in the Advertising Industry. I hope to be employed by a very successful advertising or consulting agency. I believe that working in the fields of media and advertising will open many doors for me. The Advertising Industry will broaden my horizons and give me great opportunities for a brighter future.
