Stop trying to keep up with the 'Joneses,' Stay ahead of the Joneses Everybody has a story and I’m no exception. When I tell my tale, I’m reminded of the African-American proverb, “God makes just one request of us. Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have now,” because that’s exactly what I’ve done throughout my life. Most people know I was born in Ghana, and that I came to the U.S. when I was 18. That part of my story I share with millions of others who came to this country from points around the globe – the immigrant’s tale is a primary thread in the history of this nation. What I’ve done since first stepping onto American soil is (I think) more interesting, because I’ve reinvented myself time-and-again. From corporate sales executive to motivational speaker; from management for a Fortune 500 company to successful author – I’ve traveled the highways and byways of hardship and success. That’s what makes me such an engaging speaker – because audience members can feel an authentic presence on the stage; that I am just like them – that they too can achieve their dreams. All it takes is ‘doing the best you can, where you are, with what you have now.’
