Mercedes Searer
Mercedes Searer is currently pursuing her MFA in Dance at Sarah Lawrence College and received her BA in Modern Dance from the conservatory at Point Park College. As a performer, she began her career performing Doris Humphrey reptoire with Windhover Dance Company. After graduation she performed with several acclaimed companies in a variety of movement demands: Pillow Project, Attack Theatre, and Zany Umbrella Circus, among others. She formed and co-directed an aerial dance performance company, Knot Dance, in Pittsburgh, PA prior to attending Sarah Lawrence. Most recently she has worked with Sara Rudner, Lucinda Childs, and Deganit Shemy. Her work has been performed at the Andy Warhol Museum, Children’s Museum, and Bellefield Hall, in Pittsburgh, PA. More recently, her work has been performed in New York at the Bessie Schoenberg Dance Theatre and as part of the Solar One Dance Series. Mercedes founded and ran the modern dance module in Propel Charter Schools (Pittsburgh, PA). She has also taught outreach creative arts programs for Attack Theatre, Dance Alloy Theater, and Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh, PA. She currently teaches modern dance at Sarah Lawrence College.
