Meret Steves is a Digital Media Management student at St. Edward's University. Academically, her involvement with social media at St. Edward's University has originated from creating flyers the Entrepreneurship Club's fund-raisers. The opportunity to market such events has shown her the importance of communicating a business or organization's goals through social media platforms to reach a broader audience.
In 2012 she became the Social Media Intern for a restaurant, The Grille at Rough Hollow. This opportunity provided her the experience and chance to familiarize herself with numerous social media platforms, helped her learn successful marketing campaigns, work quickly and efficiently, and further developed her interest in growing her understanding and experience with social media.
Summer 2012 she became a social media assistant for Social Media Delivered, a small business based out of Dallas. She worked on a wide range of social media campaigns for many companies, ranging from Las Vegas casinos to electrical and natural gas services. By writing Twitter and Facebook scripts for these differing industries, she researched news related to the companies so that she was up to date and educated on the client, allowing her to easily write in their voice.
As the Supplemental Instructor for St. Edward’s University accounting courses, Meret worked with a professor and guided students with creative methods to improve their understanding outside of the traditional class setting. This gave her the opportunity to know how to support an environment that encourages students to speak out about the areas giving them trouble. Using a collaborative teaching approach with students working in peer groups to review lesson material is particularly useful at establishing open conversation. Interesting methods to entertain and support participation include games, real life examples, and encouraging students to explain topics to other students.
As an intern at Arthur J. Gallagher, Meret shadowed producers to further understand the brokerage side of health insurance, experienced meetings with carriers as well as client visits, compiled carriers proposals to provide helpful information to clients, created presentations for meetings, and assisted account executives/managers in daily office tasks. Meret also had the opportunity to work with Gallagher's Talent Acquisition team by studying ways to improve their social media presence.
