Original background in public service administration – Ministry of Defence (1972) then Local Government (1979), providing - although didn't know it at the time - invaluable exposure to the 'sharp end' of various user environments; main focus ever since. Early involvement in what was then called 'Organisation and Method' and private interest in computers led in 1982 to enrolment in one of the first courses aimed specifically at business computing (rather than mathematical navel-gazing). Use of very powerful APL language in college project led to establishing a 'special projects' group in the authority (to build end-user systems). After five very happy years, moved (1988) into private sector consulting with mainly general purpose software companies, although with increasingly heavy emphasis on the financial sector.

Personal interests in history, psychology, end-user interaction, new computer developments and military/political simulations and games (not using computers), plus staring at wildlife and blue skies whenever occasion permits.
