Merry Rogers

Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

I am a second generation Calgarian. My paternal grandfather arrived in Calgary with his parents in 1907. My great grandfather found employment as a gardener at the Lougheed House and my grandfather, John Bishop Rogers started one of the first plumbing companies in Calgary. I grew up in Northwest Calgary, Collingwood and then Capital Hill. I attended Collingwood Elementary, Senator Patrick Burns Junior High and finally William Aberhart Senior High.

I lived in Eastern Canada - Petawawa, Ontario and then Sussex, New Brunswick for 5 years in the late 1970's - returning to Calgary in December 1980. I love Calgary and missed it terribly.

I have always been organized. Who knew I could fashion a career from being the kid who sorted their Halloween candy.....

I worked in the general field of secretarial services for 17 years. I went back to school as a "mature" student and trained as a Legal Assistant. That decision changed my life. I have been working in an administrative role at The Law Society of Alberta for 20+ years and can honestly say I love my job.

I have been a volunteer in one form or another since I was 13 years old. I am a past president of the Killarney-Glengarry Community Association and the Northern Hills Community Association. I was a Board Member at Sarcee Meadows Housing Co-Op and a liaison to the Rutland Park Community Association. I was a Board Member of the Calgary Currie PC Constituency Board and worked on several aldermanic campaigns for Ward 6.

Today, I am Chair of a regional 12 step Board , I organize regular afternoon get-togethers with my high school friends, I am becoming a world traveller, a canoeist, a camper, a gardener, a hiker, a snowshoer; I spend time with my grandson Tyton, I can and preserve, and I sell Epicure Selections & Norwex . I love walks with my dog Jade or time reading with my cats Odin and Edie curled up at my feet. I host international students each year. I have a full, family and friend filled life. I am grateful, every day.

I have found a soul mate in Jim Hockaday, who has brought love, adventure, understanding and peace to my life. We spend two months of each year together; one month with him in England, (land of my family roots) and the world beyond and one month in Canada, sharing the wonders of mountains, rivers and wildlife. Between those two points, we talk every day thanks to the wonders of Skype!
