Metropolitan West

Metropolitan West was founded in 1991 by Kelly Taylor. Coming from a family construction company, I found I had the ability to perform the day to day operations as well as project management. I started to look for opportunities in construction that I could do as a business for myself. Seeing the need for graffiti protective coatings, the opportunity was seized. After looking at many types of options, applying thick clear film on glass was the course taken. When the glass was tagged, the sacrificial film could be removed and replaced. That did well and we did receive a large opportunity with the Los Angeles riots. Continuing to apply the film on the outside of the glass for graffiti, it could also be applied on the inside for safety purposes.

Having the business infrastructure and installers in place, I began seeking new opportunities with my team. Where else could we install film? We then moved into safety films and solar control window film. We began marketing decorative films as a cost effective solution to sandblasted glass. A plotter was then purchased and we began to cut images and decorative embellishments into the film. The next stage was to buy a printer to put custom images and designs on film.

Again looking for new opportunities with the team and business model we have, printing onto wall coverings was the next natural step. This was a perfect alignment for the resources that we had. This division took off and we purchased 3 more printers to fulfill our needs.

Metropolitan West is an S corporation with Kelly Taylor as holder of all stock. We use a mailing address in Los Angeles and have our production done in Signal Hill. The building houses the office staff as well as the printers and laminators. The building is 3,300 square feet.

Our mission statement is proudly printed on the wall in the reception area of our office. It reads:

To provide and install the best products our industry has to offer. We will strive to guide our customers to products that will make their lives more beautiful and comfortable.

We work with some of the largest Architects, property ,managers and contractors in Southern California and outside of our region. Gensler, the worlds largest architectural firm is now specifying us and relying on us to help them find solutions.
