Mark Gibson

London, Ontario, Canada

I want to become the next contritubiting member of your team! I am currently enrolled in the Turf Management program at Guelph University, and seeking a summer internship for the 2015 season.

My previous work experience includes:

Dominos Pizza 2004-2009. It was at the pizza shop where I developed my communication, people, and managerial skills. Talking directly with customers, both in person and over the phone helped me become more professional. I became a shift manager at a young age and I learned many different aspects of being a manger and how to deal with them.

At the age of 19 I made a big decision in my life and moved to a mountain resort in British Columbia called Panorama. Here is where I first worked on a golf course, at Greywolf. I became very punctual and starting to practice my time management. Punctuality has become very important to me in all aspects of life because of my time at Greywolf.

I moved back to my hometown of London, Ontario after one season in B.C. Since then I have worked at The Fox Golf Club just outside of London for one season. For the past 3 years I have been employeed at Forest City National Golf Club. I have continued to learn and grow my knowledge about the game and the industry in my 5 years in the field.

In my 5 years experience in turf, I have learned many different aspects of maintaing a golf course, but still have plenty to learn. I would like to develop my management skills further, time and people. My attention to detail has grown, I need to keep practicing this and progress my skill.

During my internship I hope to be able to apply chemicals using a sprayer. I have applied fertilizer using a walking rotary spreader, but I would really learn about and work with sprayers. I am seeking some irrigation experience as well. I have done some in the past and I am looking the expand my knowledge with different irrigation systems and styles. I would also like to practice and advance my supervisor skills.

At the end of my internship I hope to have my spray license and also be able to confidently manage a crew successfully through the day to day functions on a golf course.
