Mia Reid
Student in Australia
Hello I'm Mia Reid; I graduated from high school two years ago and I'm a currently a student in my first year studying my Bachelor of education. In my second year I hope to enter secondary education and potentially major in health or PE and minor in maths. I am interested in all activities outdoors specifically camping, hiking and snowboarding. I enjoy travelling to new countries, my favourites I have been to so far are Japan and New Zealand.
I initially was interested in studying to become a teacher when I was in primary school. I would pretend to be a teacher to my younger sister and teach her things such as how to read an analogue clock or how to tie her shoelaces. Additionally, I was the learning leader captain in grade 6, this involved helping children who needed extra support with their reading and spelling skills. These experiences lead to my desire to become a teacher as I enjoyed helping people learn.
In high school my favourite class was outdoor education, it was everything I was interested in and if I am able to, I would love to teach it in the future as you get to go on multiple camps and excursions to learn outside of the classroom making the learning experience more engaging.
Additionally, my year 10 work experience was at a childcare centre, this added to my interest in teaching however it made it clear to me I would personally prefer secondary teaching rather than younger children.
When I graduate my goal is to become a secondary teacher and within this I would hopefully like to experience different teaching opportunities, for example, teaching in rural schools, teaching in a different country or even teaching at a correctional centre. These career pathways are of interest to me as they will be rewarding and different to a traditional classroom.
I was a quiet student and some of my favourite teachers were always supportive and made me feel comfortable to ask anything I needed so another goal I have is to ensure I create a safe classroom for all students and present myself as a teacher who anyone can approach about anything or if they need assistance.
