Micah Kurtz
Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director in Columbia, South Carolina
Micah Kurtz was named the National High School Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2016 and has been named the South Carolina Strength and Conditioning Coach of the year in both 2013 and 2014.
Coach Kurtz is in his 8th year as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at AC Flora high school in Columbia, South Carolina. In the past five years AC Flora has won 14 state championships and many more individual state championships. This past year both the boys’ basketball and golf teams were state champions. AC Flora was named the #1 athletic program in the Columbia metropolitan area by the State Newspaper in both 2014 and 2015.
Additionally, Coach Kurtz serves as the Strength and Conditioning Consultant to the 9 time high school basketball national champion Oak Hill Academy, which won the Dick’s High School National Basketball Tournament in 2016.
In his role as Director of Strength and Conditioning, he has developed the school’s first ever strength and conditioning program, assumed the role of nutritionist for the school’s 38 teams and created a school wide culture of vitality and fitness which includes not only students, but also the faculty, staff, parents and community.
Coach Kurtz has spoke at strength and conditioning clinics throughout the east coast and in China and Hong Kong. He is the State Director of the National Strength and Conditioning Association's (NSCA) South Carolina Chapter and is a member of the Subject Matter Expert Committee with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Coach Kurtz is a National Board Certified Teacher, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction, a USA Weight Lifting Certified Sport's Performance Coach, a National Association Speed and Explosion Specialist and a Level II Functional Movement Screen Certified Coach.
