Michael Gastinel
Power Plant Systems Technician, ICE Technician, and Power Plant Operator in Forney, Texas
Michael Gastinel is a power generation technician with almost ten years of experience in utility-scale energy operations. Based in Granbury, Texas, he works in plant systems, instrumentation and controls, and turbine operations. His technical background includes working with GE 7FA and 7EA turbines and DCS platforms such as GE Mark VI and Emerson Ovation. He is also knowledgeable in emissions compliance systems. With a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology, he takes pride in mentoring junior team members, improving plant reliability, and maintaining high operational standards.
As the youngest of three siblings, he grew up in Granbury, Texas, in a supportive family that valued hard work and service to others. His early years were influenced by school, church, and Scouts. Regularly attending Catholic Mass and being active in the Boy Scouts of America shaped his sense of discipline and commitment, leading him to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in 2008.
After graduating from Granbury High School in 2008, he took a year off to gain work experience and started as a sheet metal mechanic. When the Great Recession led to layoffs, he decided to return to school and focus on a stable, long-term career. Initially studying Computer Science, he discovered a stronger passion for applied electronics and electrical systems, which guided him to Electrical Engineering Technology. Balancing part-time work and studies, he earned his degree from the University of Toledo in 2015.
After graduation, Michael Victor Gastinel joined Troy Energy, LLC in Ohio as a Combustion Turbine Specialist. His role included turbine operations, calibration, instrumentation, and troubleshooting. He handled NERC compliance reporting, maintained CEMS equipment, managed GADS data, mentored new hires, and supported a full NERC audit with no findings.
In 2022, he returned to Texas to join Luminant Generation Company, LLC. He worked first at the Forney Plant and later transferred to the DeCordova Power Plant in his hometown. His work expanded to include GE turbines, DCS, and battery energy storage systems. He also became the Behavior-Based Safety Champion, supporting safety and reliability across the plant.
Outside work, he enjoys cars, electronics, golf, fitness, and time with family. He remains active in his Catholic faith and supports community efforts. Michael Gastinel focuses on teamwork, learning, and steady growth in his field.
