Michael Powell
Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, and FTO Trainer in Sulphur, Louisiana
Michael has over three-decades of criminal justice experience serving in all positions from police officer to Police Chief, as well as experience as a regional trainer, consultant, and adjunct college faculty member. He has a Masters in Public Administration, from Grand Canyon University; a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from McNeese State University; a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix, and an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement from Green River College.
Michael has been an adjunct faculty member at Peninsula College in Port Angeles (WA) and taught classes at McNeese State University in Criminal Justice Administration, and has held speaking engagements to Pre-Law and Political Science Majors at McNeese University.
Michael is a Graduate of the Northwestern University Police Staff and Command College and is also a Graduate of the Pacific Northwest FBI Command College and is a Member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA).
Michael also served as Emergency Management Director and has been involved in serving as Incident Commander for significant natural disasters involving floods, snow, and ice storms as well as investigations involving shootings, homicides, home invasion robberies, along with community festival planning and crowd management.
Michael served on a municipal SWAT Team for 10 years as an entry team member and Sniper. He also worked regional crime task force assignments that targeted Criminal Gangs as well as separate assignments in narcotics and DUI. In 1991 he was recognized for a Life Saving Incident.
Michael has also served as a consultant/trainer for agencies in the Pacific Northwest, and has been certified as an instructor in a multitude of law enforcement specialties. He has served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), FTO Coordinator and Manager for nearly 15 years. Michael has been the project manager for Normandy Park Police Department, as Accreditation Manager
Michael was voted Officer of the Year for McNeese State University in 2015 for his Outstanding Public Service
Michael was also published in 2015 when he co-authored a chapter in a three-book set entitled Guns and Contemporary Firearms, Past, Present, and Future, edited by Gleen H. Utter.
