Michael Dean
A native Oklahoman, my grandparents settled in Norman prior to statehood. I have been working in broadcast news since my high school days. I served in Public Affairs in the U. S. Marine Corps on active duty, and the U.S. Army Reserve for 23 years. This experience in broadcast journalism, marketing, and public relations led me to a 23 year caeer in state government as the Public Information Officer for two state agencies.
From 2003 to 2013 I was the Public Relations director for the Oklahoma Historical Society. I was directly responsible for promoting and marketing the the Oklahoma History Center including all programs and exhibits. I served on the Tourism Promotion Advisory Committee, as the OHS designee, for the past ten years. I was elected Vice Chairman for a two year teerm in 2009, then elected to a two year term as chairman in 2011. I also have served on the Board of Directors of the Frontier Country Marketing Association since 2008.
My interest in history began at a young age and continued through his long career in broadcasting. I was named Public Relations Director for the Oklahoma Historical Society Feb. 1, 2003. I earned both bachelors and masters degrees from Southern Nazarene University.
I am now in my 23rd year as part of the Sooner Radio Network on the broadcasts of OU football and men’s basketball games.
I am a published author. Interviews I’ve done for documentaries have been seen in the U.S. and Canada, The United Kingdom and Australia.
I am married and have a daughter and two step-sons, and four grandchildren.
