Michael Meany
Newcastle, Australia.
I am a senior lecturer in Communication at the University of Newcastle, Australia. My background includes careers as a freelance writer, a typesetter and publication designer, and as a playwright. I teach courses that range from traditional print media through to online, interactive media including audio and video production.
These varied careers give me an eclectic mix of skills to bring to my research. My research interests include humour, creativity, artificial intelligence, script writing and narrative/interactive media design. I submitted my PhD through Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia. My PhD research topic is 'The Performance of Comedy by Artificial Intelligence Agents'.
This was a creative project and exegesis type of PhD. Hey, if you're going to stick with a project for several years you've got to enjoy it - hence the mix of humour, performance and technology. If you want to have a play - go to aimlhumour.blogspot.com.au
Serious fun.
