Michael Young
My name is Michael Young and I am the founder of the Mindfulness Mission Blog.
Here's a little back story about me:
A year ago, I viewed myself as your typical twenty-something in 2014: college educated, overworked, underpaid, addicted to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and more with a poor relationship with myself and those around me. I was full of pain and fury and had no idea why the things I wanted most in life (happiness, a good partner, meaningful work, a relationship with my family etc.) were not materializing in my life.
I'm sure that there was one specific moment when that changed, but I doubt I could pinpoint it. I've always been looking inward and upward for some sort of connection, maybe an answer, something that could help me get a grasp on myself and my desires. Every day I would promise my friends I would "get my shit together," and every day I tried. I'm not sure if that's ever going to happen or if I have accomplished that feat at this point. But again, I try.
One day, I did that thing that a lot of us "soul-searching-millennials" do: I moved to a developing nation and tried to be useful. It was probably in this environment that I became more self-aware and quite possibly "got my shit together". Even though I regret it sometimes, I came back to the United States. It's easy to be peaceful in the jungle, it's much harder to grow, serve and love in a metropolitan area of the US.
...and that is why I've started this blog.
This blog is an attempt to share and explore the things that I have learned and find interesting and useful.
Topics will generally include: getting-your-shit-together, yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, food and wellness, art, tarot and how to implement all the good stuff we learn into the face-paced life-style of a young American: coffee, rent, credit-cards, 60 hour+ work weeks and more.
In my dreams this blog grows to include many contributors, discussions and localized events. For now, enjoy what you can while I figure all of that out. Please feel free to comment, share and help the blog grow.
