Michael Daniel Daly
Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom
Michael is a composer and record producer, with many years' varied experience at the forefront of music computer technology. He works from his Oxfordshire studio and is currently writing several large-scale multi-media sacred music projects.
Michael's writing career began when he was invited to join the Cambridge-based Elementary Theatre Company as Music Director and composer. He worked with them for several years, writing and directing music for many plays, including several Edinburgh Festival projects.
Michael, together with its founder, Adele Drake, launched Drake Music, becoming its first music director. A charity where disabled and non-disabled musicians work together as equals, using the latest technology, Drake Music has grown into a hugely successful national enterprise, having centres in London, Bristol and Manchester. Drake Music was the subject of a Channel 4 documentary, Go For It!, featuring Michael, Adele and their pupils.
Michael's work with Drake Music led him to become involved with Sir Richard Stilgoe, working with him as Electronic Music Tutor on several of his Orpheus Centre’s Share Music courses, an inspiring venture bringing disabled and able-bodied people together for a week’s intensive music-making.
Michael was a producer for Conifer Records, and headed their computer audio remastering programme, taking the snap, crackle & pop out of old 78s, using new prototype computer systems.
After producing many albums for Conifer, Michael branched out and founded his own record company, Past Perfect. As Managing Director his aim was to to remaster vintage recordings to the highest possible quality. He succeeded, setting new industry standards, and soon gained an international reputation for audio excellence. The BBC said: “I don’t know how they do it – the artists live again!"
Michael has produced work for the BBC, Channel 4, Procter & Gamble, Milan Fashion Week and H2Eye, and created websites about his father, Kevin Daly, and George Formby.
