An "inuksuk" (pronounced "in-uk-shuk") is a rock structure, built in the image of man, and used for navigation across the arctic tundra. A marker for making progress over changing terrain.

It has connotations of friendship and collaboration. The size of some inuksuk suggest that the construction was often a communal effort, requiring people of varying talents to execute successfully.
