Michael Turner
I was born in Santa Barbara, California between the mountains and the sea, and spent my early years exploring the California coast with my mother, a Marine Biologist.
I first went to Africa with my Father and Grandfather in 1988, age 9. This would prove to be my last time that I spent with my Grandfather and one of the most memorable trips that I have ever taken.
After this I was hooked and knew that somehow, I needed to lead a life in Africa on safari. As you would imagine at the age of 9, it took some time to make this a realization.
After attending senior school in England and then studying Zoology at Edinburgh University, in Scotland. I was then able to start going on safari once again. I spent a significant amount of time in East Africa exploring, and after graduation I moved to South Africa and never looked back. Africa was home.
I started my guiding career by volunteering on every safari and lodge staffing quotient that I could get my hands on; gaining more and more experience. This culminated in working for Uncharted Africa Safari Company in Botswana.
Here I managed their various camps and all of the Botswana Operations, while continuing my guide training. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to gain experience in the wonderful areana of the Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
The core values that developed at this time in terms of what it means to take guests on their trip of a lifetime, is to start by peeling off the layers of this amazing continent one at a time. Take the time to reveal all of the different aspects of the continent’s natural history- from geology, anthropology, ethnology, history to the entire ecosystem and celestial night sky, a never-ending learning curve!
I am incredibly passionate about what I get to do on a daily basis and the more that I get to share it with others, the more that I love it.
