Prof. Dr. Michael Klaas

Corporate Development in Sankt Gallen, Schweiz

I’m Head of Corporate Development at HWZ University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Zurich. I enjoy building the bridges that make a university truly entrepreneurial: strong partnerships with companies, start-ups and public institutions, innovation initiatives that create measurable impact, and education formats that stay close to real-world problems while keeping academic quality high.

I’m also a Professor (Prof. Dr.) with a focus on Data Analytics and AI. What drives me is making these topics practical and useful—especially where they meet marketing, innovation and decision-making. I like turning abstract technology into clear choices, better processes and solutions that people can actually apply in their work.

Before joining HWZ, I spent ten years at ZHAW School of Management and Law, where I led the Digital Marketing unit. Over that time, I helped shape the direction of the unit, expanded collaborations and projects, and taught digital marketing, service design, design thinking and customer experience management at Bachelor and Master level—in both German and English. I also contributed to building new topics and offerings, including Service Design and the broader AI-in-marketing context.

Alongside this, Design Thinking has been a constant thread in my work. I have long-standing experience teaching and coaching Design Thinking at the University of St.Gallen, working with interdisciplinary student teams and a wide range of partner organisations. I previously served as interim Head of Department for Digital Business Management at HWZ until 31 December 2025.

Earlier in my career, I worked at Hilti as Head of New Media and at SAP as a Senior Business Consultant, and I was a Research Manager at the University of St.Gallen. These roles gave me a strong foundation in digital strategy, business innovation, business process management and IT architecture—skills I still rely on when shaping partnerships, programmes and innovation projects today.

Outside of work, I’m a hands-on tinkerer. I like experimenting with electronics—Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects included—and I’m always happy to exchange ideas, tips, or the occasional “why is this not working?” debugging story.
