Michael Lafond
Project Manager, Small Business Owner, and Web Developer in Colorado
Change.... If I had to summarize my career in one word it would be "change." While in college, I worked as a lighting and set designer in a local community theater, as well as serving as a cable television producer for a local government access cable TV station. Educated in physics and optics, after college I hired on with an innovative start-up developing fiber optic sensors for use in civil structures; very challenging when you consider that we were using "glass" drawn out to a width slightly thicker than a human hair (normally known as fiber optics).
I relocated from Southern California to Littleton, Colorado, where I became a software developer working for another start-up in the financial services industry. I was quickly promoted to a senior management position, where I survived (and thrived) through an acquisition by a Fortune 500 company. After almost 20 years, and several reorganizations, it was time to go my own way.
Having been intrigued by advances and discussions surrounding mobile apps, internet-based businesses, lifestyle design, remote work, and entrepreneurship, I decided to return to my roots in start-ups and, along with a partner, launch my own business, ERISA Business Intelligence, Inc. We will provide lead-generation and prospecting tools to the retirement services marketplace, as well as training and education relating to a consultative sales process.
It is as though I have come full circle... creative, to start-up to corporation, and finally back to creating a start-up. I have recently discovered the thriving start-up community here in Denver, and hope to connect with other entreprenuers to interact, form mastermind groups, and provide support to one another when possible.
More importantly, I am a loving husband and father of three teenage young men, am active in my faith community, and consider myself an amateur genealogist (although I've been researching my French-Canadian, Italian, and German roots for over 20 years, time permitting).
I am always looking for new opportunities, and love discussing and brainstorming new ideas.
Oh, and in case you are wondering, I took the background photo in Muir Redwood Forest just North of San Francisco. I had to show my sons these majestic trees.
