Michael Landis is a historian, educator, and author. Michael Landis graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in history, as well as a PhD in history from The George Washington University in 2011. His research interests include the American Antebellum and Civil War periods, slavery, politics and partisanship, and public history. Michael Landis has developed good organizational abilities and the ability to efficiently manage and prioritize his career, in addition to a flexible and adaptable attitude to work.

Michael Landis is a Communications Director and Public Programs Manager for the Saratoga County History Center in Ballston Spa, NY, as well as a Research Associate at Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, NY). He's published essays, articles, and op-eds for The Washington Post and Smithsonian Magazine, among other major publications. His first book, Northern Men with Southern Loyalties: The Democratic Party and the Sectional Crisis, was published by Cornell University Press in 2014 and was designated a Choice Magazine Outstanding Academic Title in 2015.

Michael Landis current projects include The Presidential Election of 1856: The Slave Power Challenged and Cornerstone of the Confederacy: Slavery and Power in Civil War Georgia. Michael Landis has also worked as a consultant and an editor. Michael Landis has received numerous research grants and awards, including a George Washington University award for outstanding graduate paper in April 2007, a White House Historical Association research grant in February 2009, and, most recently, a beautification award from the Ballston Spa Business & Professional Organization in November 2020 for the SCHC exhibit Coping with Crisis.
