Dr. Michael Lavyne
Michael Lavyne, M.D., specializes in treating spinal cord problems. A board-certified neurosurgeon who appears perennially on Castle Connelly Medical Ltd.’s annual list of America’s Top Doctors, Michael Lavyne, M.D., has several prestigious accomplishments to his credit, including two important discoveries pertaining to brain infection and obstruction. In 1980, Dr. Lavyne was among the first physicians to use a minimally invasive microsurgery technique to treat spinal cord problems. He currently serves as an Attending Surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, both highly regarded New York institutions.
In addition, Michael Lavyne, M.D., acts as a Clinical Professor of Neurological Surgery at Cornell University’s prestigious Weill Cornell Medical College. In this capacity, he instructs students and residents in best practice techniques that pertain to patient care, as well as clinical research. Many of his findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals; he has also written several book chapters. In addition to these impressive accomplishments, Michael Lavyne, M.D., earned a U.S. patent for a neurological surgical tool that he designed, and he is a member of the New York City Emergency Physician Volunteer Corps.

Michael Lavyne, M.D., completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital after graduating with honors from Williams College with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and earning his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College.
