Michael O'Dell MD
Since graduating from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City in 1977 with a Doctor of Medicine degree, Michael O’Dell, MD, has had an extensive career. Licensed to practice medicine in the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, California, and Kansas, Michael O’Dell, MD, is also Board-certified by the American Board of Family Practice, with his most recent recertification coming in July 2007. Dr. O’Dell holds membership in the American Diabetes Association, the American Society for Quality, the Medical Group Management Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. He also regularly gives speeches and presentations on medical issues, and has been a featured speaker at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Joint Commission Physician Engagement Advisory Group, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Michael O’Dell, MD, is currently the Chair of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He also presently serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer at Truman Medical Center’s Lakewood campus in Kansas City, Missouri. He previously held positions at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi; Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama; and St. Mary’s Hospital at Galveston, Texas. Michael O’Dell, MD, served in the United States Navy for 25 years and retired with the rank of Captain. During the Persian Gulf War, he was the Inpatient Medical Director at Fleet Hospital 6 in the country of Bahrain. He has also written numerous articles on medical issues for the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association, American Family Physician, and Jayhawk Family Physician.
