Learning Technologies Application Developer at Vancouver Island University in the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning; a growing teaching and learning centre. In this role I am actively involved in: researching emerging technologies and practices in higher education; administrating the Desire2Learn learning management system; Kaltura streaming media server; WordPress blogging networks and communities of practice; Collaborate online meeting spaces and Mediawiki. I conduct workshops and training to support informed educational technology usage.
Formerly I was an educational technologies researcher with the Centre for Educational Technology at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa. I worked on the Shuttleworth Foundation funded open educational resources (OER) project and was actively involved with the technical analysis, selection, development and support process for the UCT OpenContent OER directory and early phases of OpenUCT. I engaging with UCT academics to promote the creation of electronic teaching materials as OER and consulted on technical, legal, and social concerns.
I am an educational technologies researcher interested in open education, open source software, open technology, networked learning, and all things education technology.
