Michael Segal
Venture Capital in San Francisco, California
I am an early-stage investor at Bessemer. I love meeting with businesses that are working to change people's daily lives in meaningful ways. Product is closest to my heart, and that's reflected in my background as an entrepreneur and product manager.
Before Bessemer, I got to spend some time as a PM at Spotify (my only "big company" so far).
I've also founded and helped build a few startups:
- Skylight (www.skylightframe.com). We sell a new connected hardware product for families, and have thousands of happy customers.
- CurioRoad.com, a marketplace for the superstars of artisan and handmade design. We raised seed capital from top New York angel investors, including Fabrice Grinda, Jason Finger, Gary Vaynerchuk, and others.
- StudentBusinesses.com, which was acquired in 2009 by the Kauffman Foundation and is now called iStart.org.
I started my career at Bessemer in NY, and worked on investments that helped build vital pieces of the marketing ecosystem, like Adap.tv (acquired by AOL) and Involver (acquired by Oracle). I also helped with our investment in Russian e-commerce giant KupiVIP.
Education: I got a BA (summa cum laude) in Biochemistry from Harvard College in 2008, and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2015. While at Harvard, I helped to found the Harvard College Entrepreneurship Forum and the Harvard College Innovation Challenge.
