Michael Sondheimer

A 1977 graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Michael Sondheimer worked in the institution’s athletic department throughout his entire professional career. Until recently, he served as associate athletic director and recruiting coordinator for UCLA, with responsibilities for coordinating campus tours and visits and academic admissions among prospective college athletes. Michael Sondheimer was tasked with ensuring full campus compliance with NCAA and UCLA guidelines and made certain that all general academic core classes and admission-test requirements were fulfilled. He also assisted coaches in planning basketball on-campus Junior Days and football pregame picnics.

A former student sports editor with the Daily Bruin, Mr. Sondheimer continued to participate in media coverage of UCLA athletics by providing radio color commentary on women’s volleyball and basketball and facilitating Olympic Sport Internet Radio broadcasts. He has assisted NBC Sports as a statistician and researcher for numerous televised beach and indoor volleyball matches over the years, including the 2000 and 2012 Olympic Games. Michael Sondheimer maintains membership in the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and has undertaken volunteer work supporting banquet events for the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Sports Spectacular.
